Do you find yourself restricting your calories and food intake one day, and then binge an unbearable amount of food to the point of physical pain the next? Going from restricting how many drops of olive oil or calories you can have in the day relying on multiple cups of coffee as your main energy source until you find yourself starving at night and eating anything you can get your hands on at night? This may be an example of disordered eating.

Chances are, you’re stuck in a dangerous and vicious cycle. The binge and restrict cycle.

If this resonates with you, and you recognize that this is an unhealthy pattern of eating that’s becoming detrimental to your health and well being, you have already taken the first step. If you clicked this article chances are you are aware this may be a problem of yours. Recognizing that this may be an issue in your life is the first step to solving it. This Binge and Restrict cycle can be incredibly detrimental to your quality of life and health.

The underlying causes of this disordered behaviour can be different for everyone. The daily causes and triggers associated with both restriction and binges are unique to each individual and it’s important to recognize what yours may be. Below are a few tips to help figuring that out:

  • Write down and keep track of what you are thinking about before either restricting or binging.
